Options How to Operate Your Gym Going Forward (COVID-19)

Yesterday, we sent you three options for how to operate your gym moving forward.***These options have been updated and can be accessed below.  All options are still currently available for My Gym owners. +++ As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to unfold, we must prepare to face some choices for our businesses in the days and weeks ahead. MGE has created three options for how your gym could operate going forward.  There are pros and cons to every option, and we ask you to consider each possibility thoughtfully before coming to a decision.  We understand the choices we face are not easy, and, if you need any assistance in coming to a decision, you may contact us directly for advice. It is also important to understand that the government could enact stricter policies in some areas in the days to come, specifically, regarding social distancing and quarantines.  However, at this moment, many My Gyms fall into a category that leaves the decision to remain open or to close in your hands. MGE is...

Guidance Regarding When to Close the Gym Because of COVID-19

Each My Gym owner will be facing incredibly difficult decisions during the next period of time, as we see businesses and school systems temporarily closing around us.  Many of you are probably considering “social distancing” advisements and are wondering where My Gym falls within those guidelines.  We wish we had one protocol for all My Gyms at this time, but each gym is different according to the circumstances around them. While every owner will need to make this extremely hard decision individually, we will be right in this with you, assisting through consultation and guidance.  Please consider the following when deciding to keep your gym open or to temporarily close: Reasons to temporarily close your gym: If the government tells you to shut downIf a staff member in your gym receives a positive diagnosis of COVID-19If a child or parent who has attended class receives a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 Reasons you MAY need to temporarily close your gym: If a staff member, child, or parent in your gym has...

MGE Coronavirus Update #3 (COVID-19)

IMPORTANT:  This email was prepared BEFORE the president made his address last night.  We felt the information may be helpful so we are sending in. Another update will go out shortly with more current information.  For now, all gyms should remain open.  Ordinarily we do follow the school system as it relates to closure, but we are also taking into account what other private schools, daycares, and kid-centric businesses (karate, dance studios, etc.) are doing as well. If everyone shuts down or if someone from the gym comes forward as having tested positive, then that certainly changes the tenor of the conversation. But, as of this minute, the best advice is for all gyms to remain open. Update from 3/11/2020 (Before presidential announcement): Dear franchisees, Here are our latest advisements: If you didn’t already, please send the illness/cleaning policy email we provided from last week to your database.  In EMS, create a new email, and find the template in the General folder. If you already sent it last week,...

Steps to take if Coronavirus is reported in your community or gym (COVID-19)

We want to report that, although a few My Gyms are seriously affected by coronavirus (cancellations and freezes), most My Gyms report either “all is OK here” or “just a handful of conversations/cancellations.”  We are also hearing of a few parties being cancelled.  Because of the extenuating circumstances created by coronavirus, most companies are temporarily adjusting their “no refunds” policies, so please consider the gravity of the situation, take each person case by case, and act accordingly.  We also wanted to be sure you had these directives in the event your community or gym has a case of coronavirus reported.  (See below)  We remain optimistic that the heightened awareness of coronavirus will bring about an end of this crisis.  Please contact us immediately for direction should you need it. Thank you,MGE Guidance for a My Gym with identified cases of COVID-19 in the community or gymMarch 6, 2020 The guidance provided here is based on current knowledge of COVID-19 (coronavirus) as of March 6, 2020. As additional information becomes...

Update re: Launch Timing for Direct-to-Parent Birthday Party Favor Program

We’re excited about the upcoming launch of the Direct-to-Parent Birthday Party Favor Program announced last month (see updates released 2/21 and 2/25). As mentioned before, it’s convenient for gyms, convenient for parents, and provides marketing and profit for franchisees. While some gyms already have party favor programs, most gyms are not pursuing this low hanging fruit. This program is designed to help capture this opportunity for you, and earn you more money. To be clear, when you receive 20% of the gross revenue, you are essentially being given almost half of the net profit. We intentionally decided on this generous revenue split to make it a “no brainer” for gyms to participate in this program.  In fact, even gyms that have been selling some party favors have chosen to join in, feeling they can reach more members and earn more money passively. If you’re concerned about MGE’s contacting your members, don’t be. Our emails are professional and not intrusive; our party favors are high-quality and high value, and your...

Illness Policy – Coronavirus Update (COVID-19)

Typically, cold and flu season lasts from October to May, with February topping out the highest numbers of cases.  In addition to the health issues we usually deal with at this time, we now also have coronavirus (COVID-19) to contend with.  Some of your clients may be panicking, but it’s important that you stay calm and stick to the facts. First, don’t panic!  These outbreaks happen, and this too shall pass.  While we can’t control the outbreak itself, we can control how we react to it. Hold to your positive outlook and lean on the organizations responsible for our health – the CDC and WHO.  Keep in mind that the majority of My Gymers, My Gym members/kids, and your community are healthy and do not have immune issues.  COVID-19 is a bigger health risk for senior citizens, and those with immune deficiency issues.  Please click here for more information on COVID-19. Clean and disinfect.  Even though we encourage the use of natural and nontoxic cleaning products, we also must...

SAFETY ALERT: Programs/Events with Younger and Older Children Present

There have recently been an increasing number of injuries reported at PNOs, Practice and Plays, and Birthday Parties in particular.  Programs and events with mixed ages, such as open houses, camps, PNOs, birthday parties, and practice and plays, can be a challenge.  As a reminder, here are guidelines to ensure the safety of all children during mixed age programs: If you are expecting a lot of kids and also mixed ages, rearrange a few pieces of equipment to create a simpler setup with fewer areas to spot.  All yoga balls and “ball hoppers” must be removed from the floor, as older kids often kick or swing them with a lot of force and can possibly strike a toddler.  Remove any other equipment that can be misused.  Make effective, clear safety announcements.  Repeat as needed.  Remind parents of older kids that they must supervise their children at all times (during Practice and Play).Do NOT rile up the older kids.  Do NOT play chase or tag with the older kids when...

Supplemental Update re: My Gym Direct-to-Parent Birthday Party Favor Program

We’re receiving great responses to the Direct-to-Parent Birthday Party Favor Program announced last Friday.  For your convenience, the update sent on 2/21 is available here.  Thank you to the gyms who have provided feedback.  This update serves to address some comments and questions sent in. Question #1:  What if I already sell party favors or include them in party packages? Answer #1:  That’s OK.  Just know, unless you opt out of this program, all party parents will receive the marketing emails, and they may ignore, delete, or unsubscribe from those emails.  If you prefer to control which customers receive the birthday party favor emails from MGE, contact aherrera@mygym.com.   Question #2:  Are the new Goody Bags available yet? Answer #2:  The new Goody Bags are in the port of Los Angeles, and we hope to have them in our warehouse and ready to ship by 3/1.  As soon as they’re ready, the new Goody Bags will be available for parents on mygympartyfavors.com for $5.25 plus shipping.  Gyms will be able...

My Gym Direct-to-Parent Birthday Party Favor Program

We’re pleased to announce that MGE is launching a program to market and sell birthday party favors directly to parents.  Why?  It’s convenient for gyms, convenient for parents, and provides marketing and profit for My Gyms. This is how it will work: Current:  Parent books party online or in person, and it ends up in MGM. Parent receives a party booking confirmation email.  New: In addition to the MGM confirmation email, the parent will receive a marketing email from MGE asking parents to select their party favors.  Parents click on the link and are directed to an e-commerce site operated by MGE where they can purchase party favors.Eight party favor choices will be offered with prices ranging from $5 to $9.If parents do not purchase favors or unsubscribe, they will receive weekly reminder emails as the party approaches.Parents who unsubscribe from the party favor campaign will not be unsubscribed from your regular gym marketing mailings. If the gym is actively selling their own favors, they can opt out of the...

Birthday Week in Curriculum

It’s one thing to tell people how awesome our My Gym parties are…  We can talk all day long about the games we’ll play, the special attention their child will receive, and all of the fun they’ll be sure to have.  …But it’s another thing to show people the magic of a My Gym party, right in front of their eyes! As you may have noticed in the Operational To-Do’s, we are recommending everyone host a “birthday week” in the gym.  Whether you’re looking to celebrate your gym’s annual anniversary (“My Gym La Verne is turning 11!”) or simply drum up birthday party bookings, the recommendation is to pick one week wherein your gym will feature birthday-themed curriculum in place of the normal weekly curriculum found in the Curriculum Center.  To that end, we have done the work of programming the content for you!  The two links can be found here: younger | older, and are also available in the Curriculum Center under Programming > Birthday Party Programming. Before...

Important Changes to our Cancellation Policy

If you were to google “My Gym,” you would immediately be hit with a great many reviews espousing how special our program is, how wonderful our teachers are, and how much of an impact My Gym has made in so many families’ lives.  Unfortunately, however, you would also see a lot of reviews written by displeased parents who have a serious bone to pick with our cancellation policy. Some parents may not have read the VIMA thoroughly.  Some claim to have been told something different by a staff member.  Some are simply upset that, though they thought they were giving ample notice, they may be on the hook for up to SEVEN more weeks because their payment had just gone through and we still require one more before they can quit.  Others may try to cancel their accounts online, only to discover that they owe one final payment BUT that they can pick a “last class date” that is the same as their final payment due date. …And, then,...
