Web-Based Curriculum Is Here!

On October 31st, you will begin using the web-based curriculum (Resources > Weekly Curriculum on MGM).  There will no longer be a PDF curriculum to follow.  All training videos, music, written language, setup pictures, and Building Blocks are now in one place for you to easily access. Please take some time prior to your weekly meeting to navigate the new platform so your staff becomes accustomed to seeing everything on their tablets, phones, or laptops. Things to Know: The embedded music for songs, dances, and endings is for training purposes only. You will still make your playlists on iTunes, Spotify, or Windows Media Player, etc. for in-class music. The training videos are for your reference during the weekly meetings or for independent study/training at home for your staff. You will still get up and practice/rehearse every ingredient with your staff at meetings. Some ingredients may not have a video, or some videos may not match the written curriculum exactly. In these cases, please review and follow the written instructions.  We will...

Building Blocks: A Reintroduction

“It seems really complicated.” “We tried it, but the kids/parents didn’t seem really into it.” “We want to launch it, but I haven’t had the time.” . . . Halloween and MGCA

As Aleah has communicated with gym owners and directors throughout the year, many of you have expressed interest in incorporating fundraising for MGCA into your Halloween Parties. Whether that is through an encouraged donation by members for entry, an added raffle, or a fun game, Halloween is a great opportunity to contribute to the 100% Program and raise awareness for children in need. With resources readily available in the Print System, Operations Manual, and Exact Target, it is easier than ever to create MGCA flyers for your Halloween event, such as the one you will find attached. Please consider including MGCA in your Halloween festivities, and reach out to Aleah with any questions you may have:...

Web-Based Curriculum Update

In just under two weeks, we will be launching the new web-based curriculum! Here are a few key features and notes to remember: All training videos, music, written language, setup pictures, and Building Blocks will be in one place for you to easily access. Please be aware that some ingredients may not have a video, or some videos may not match the written curriculum exactly. In these cases, please review and follow the written instructions. We will continue to update all training videos over the course of the next year. All webpages are printable through your browser’s print function, though MGE recommends printing only the at-a-glance page if needed for quick notes and review. Now is a great time to invest in 2-3 inexpensive tablets, which are used in many areas of gym operations. Check out these options on Amazon. Week of October 24th will be the last PDF curriculum offered. Beginning October 31st, it will be all digital. Click here for a short video of how things will look moving forward....

You Brought Joy to Xiomara’s Life!

Two-year-old Xiomara relies on a G-tube for her nutrition and medication and has a number of diagnoses including chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and chronic kidney disease, plus she’s ventilator dependent 24/7. In her application to MGCA, Xiomara’s mom explained the challenges Xiomara has faced in her daily life so far: “Due to her hypotonia, various medical issues, and extended NICU hospitalization, Xiomara has global developmental delays. Despite being connected to a ventilator 24/7, she loves to play and move around as much as she can. She has made significant progress since coming home from the hospital. She is mostly at home in order to reduce exposure to public germs and illness. Having [a] climber will allow her to continue making progress on her gross motor skills in the comfort and safety of her own home as well as provide much entertainment and joy.” Since receiving this gift, Xiomara has made great progress and is high kneeling with ease. She enjoys crawling under the tunnel, rolling toys through it,...

Hyland’s Teething Tablet Samples- FDA WARNING and Hyland’s Response

MGE has been advised of the FDA’s recent warning against the use of homeopathic teething tablets and gels, including those produced and sold by Hyland’s.  On Monday, October 3rd, we explored further. Hyland’s posted a formal response yesterday (October 3rd) regarding the FDA allegations.  Here is the link. The short of it is that Hyland’s disputes the warning, maintains that their product is safe, and continues to offer it for sale on their website. We do not currently have a live program with Hyland’s for teething products, or any of their products.  The last Hyland’s teething tablets program ended in June 2016, and gyms were directed to discard any remaining samples at that time. Despite claims by Hyland’s that their product is safe if used as directed, we advise all gyms that still have some Hyland’s teething tablet samples to dispose of them immediately. If you have any questions, please email...

New Web-Based Curriculum

During the conference this past July, we presented our new web-based curriculum. We have created a platform for you to have the curriculum, training videos, music, written language, setup pictures, and Building Blocks all in one place.  Beginning with the week of October 31st, the PDF curriculum will be replaced entirely by the new web-based platform.  The 10/31 curriculum will be accessible in the same section and on the same advanced schedule as before (Resources > Weekly Curriculum on Thursday, October 20th). We are currently testing it in several gyms to ensure the transition for all will be seamless.  Though we do not feel gyms should need to print the curriculum, we understand that there may be a need for it in certain situations (e.g., to safeguard against internet outages).  All pages are printable (CTRL+P or Command+P) and/or can be saved as PDF documents to your computer.  MGE highly recommends reviewing and studying the curriculum with a computer or tablet so that you can fully take advantage of the new...

Storks- FREE Music Download- Questionable Lyrics- GYMS’ OPTION TO PLAY OR NOT

Regarding the Storks free music download cards for the song, “Kiss the Sky,” it has come to our attention that the lyrics for the song may be perceived as a bit “rough around the edges” and thus not appropriate for use in the gyms. The song is fun, upbeat, and approved to be featured in the kids’ PG rated movie; and, while it could be perceived as harmless, it may not be. Therefore, we have decided that each gym can make its own decision as to whether or not to play the song. Here is a link to the song’s official music video. Here is a link to the song as used in the promotional trailer for the video. Here is a link to the lyrics. In the future, we will NOT make any assumptions as to the lyrical content of a song merely because it is featured in a kids’ movie. Thank you, and we apologize for any confusion and or trouble this may have caused. If you...

Holiday Parties and Events Discussion Webinar

We will be holding a webinar that gives the forum to discuss upcoming holiday events.  This will include Halloween Parties, Shopping Days, and Holiday Events and Parties.  We will be looking to you to share your ideas on the format, themes, and pricing of these events. We have added some financial related topics to the webinar and therefore is now only suitable for Owners and Directors. IMPORTANT NOTES: We make every effort to place these webinars during times we feel will work for most of the My Gym Family.  Of course, this is not always possible, so a recorded version of the webinar will be posted in the Webinars & Tutorials section of the Training Tools on MGM Resources. This recording is not intended as a replacement for attending the live event.  The recorded webinar should be used only as a reference. We have disabled the mic and speakers function for this webinar; the only way to participate is to call in. Your attendance at this webinar is appreciated: Monday,...

From CMO-Sponsors and Marketing Partners

With Azul, The Honest Company, Storks, and Gazillion Bubbles sponsor/marketing materials being “live” in our gyms right now, it is the perfect opportunity to revisit this aspect of our business and explain the differences and importance of each type of relationship we pursue. To begin, there is no “one size fits all” type of deal we undertake, and each relationship is different.  However, there is one common goal, and that is that any partnership must make sense on at least two, but ideally all, identified positive levels.  Those levels include: Financial MGE shares 10% of all profits with its franchisees as agreed to by the FAB, whether allocated to the marketing fund for specific initiatives, to reducing conference costs, or to others. Marketing My Gym benefits via brand exposure and messaging through our partners’ marketing channels. Added value to franchisees Added value to customers Positive customer perception While our goal is to attain all five of these qualities in each relationship, that is not always possible and, in most...

Save Big on the My Gym Party Favor Pack!

Our gyms continue to have great success with the My Gym Party Favor Pack.  As many of you know, this pack is a huge convenience and a great value for parents, plus it’s a simple way for gyms to earn extra income from their parties while providing a great service for their members. Last November, we made some changes to the pack.  Specifically, we added the My Gym branded disc shooter; we dropped the punch ball, saucer, and spin top, and we reduced the cost from $126 to $120 for a case of 60 packs.  After the change, some gyms asked us to add the punch ball and spin top back in, since they are fun and popular items and because the punch ball adds bulk to the pack, helping to give it a higher perceived value.  We were told that gyms would prefer to have these items back in the pack, even if we had to go back to the higher previous cost.  After considering this feedback, we...

MGCA Conference Recipient Update!

Three-year-old Braelynn was diagnosed with Autism in December 2015. While this diagnosis brought up many questions for the family, it also enabled them to learn how to assist Braelynn with her growing needs. She has an interest in playing outside with her brothers, however, before receiving her gift, she would sit outside to watch without actively participating in physical activity. Thanks to the generosity of My Gym Arvada, Jupiter, Orlando, Lake Mary, Manhattan Beach, Palm Desert, Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Thousand Oaks, Valencia, and West Orange at the My Gym International Conference in July, MGCA was able to purchase a Wooden Swing Set for Braelynn. Now she participates in active play with her brothers, and your kindness has helped her change her daily routine for the better. Thank you! Gyms that have reached their 100% Goal:* My Gym Brentwood, My Gym Clovis, My Gym Kailua, My Gym Katy *Our mission is to have every My Gym contribute $1,000 to our MGCA kids in 2016. Gyms that are more than...
