Message from Our CEO

This year has challenged us, changed us, stripped us down to our core as a business and as individuals. We confronted the difficulties head on, never questioning who we are or what we stand for. But we did face questions – relentless, seemingly impossible questions from how to modify our programming to fit the needs of quarantine to how to stay connected to our My Gym families and communities, how to keep our staffs motivated, and how to simply keep our businesses alive. Though inundated with these important demands, we survived and are stronger for it. No My Gymer needs to ask the questions why or how? The answer is clear; we’re My Gym. We embrace challenges, overcome obstacles, and withstand every hardship with grit. We endure, and we will continue, no matter the adversities.  We saw the obstacles as a way to improve, so we concentrated on becoming the premium company and service we always knew we were. With the launching of POM, we will begin to see...

Updated COVID-19/Mask Guidance for US Gyms

We understand it is nerve-wracking to reduce safety measures that have been in place for over a year.  The good news is that these are not decisions any of us needs to make.  The experts (CDC and state and county health departments) are guiding us based on science and data.  We’ve endured a horrible pandemic – we closed our businesses, put protective measures in place, reduced capacities, and vaccinated millions to do our part to end this pandemic.  Now, in the US, we are winning the fight.  It is with this in mind that we are sending our My Gym family this updated guidance.  IMPORTANT:  Included here is general MGE mask and COVID-19 policy guidance.  We certainly understand that communities vary.  Please feel free to implement policies or mask regulations in your gym that are safest and best for your community. Should I require my staff, children, or clients to wear masks in the gym? If your county/state requires it:  YesIf your county/state does NOT require it:  NoOf course, in...

Important Adjusted Age Group Advisements

Earlier this month, MGE put out an update explaining some necessary changes to the age ranges of our Core Programs. Since then we have also hosted a webinar pertaining to that same topic, and are happy to report that  there have been very few issues reported by gyms that have switched over. There has been one recurring question, however:  what to do if your gym has a high number of babies enrolled (i.e., 20 or more kids). It’s a great problem to have, but one that requires a solution nonetheless. 😊 Here is how you should set up your programs, AAG-style:  Create a standalone Tiny Tykes class (or classes, if you have the need to host more than one). Set the age range in MGM from 4 months – 12 months.Set the “short description” field for the website to read “4 months – first steps.”Run the Waddlers curriculum, following any/all advisements for the non-walkers in class, as appropriate.                    i.      The old Tiny Tykes program will not appear in the ancillary folder; we are rolling the content into...

Adjusted Age Groups

We have great news! We’ve identified an area for improvement that is: Easy to implement,Requires next to nothing from your members,Will immediately improve your class quality,Will make your clients’ experience a little more “premium,” 😊And will make training new teachers easier. We’re presenting it to you now.  You can feel free to implement it tomorrow.  If you prefer to wait, we’ll be holding a “Q & A Zoom” on May 25th at 11.30 PST.  Click here for Zoom registration info. Adjusted Age Groups: Every month we get closer to the revenue levels of where we left off in Q1 2020. With the introduction of the Premium Operations Model, some locations are at or above their pre-pandemic revenue levels. A positive trend and a great sign for us all! One negative trend that picked up tremendous steam during the pandemic was combination classes – aka “combo classes,” the practice of blending 2 and sometimes even 3 different age programs into one. For example: Tiny Tykes/Waddlers, Mighty Mites/Whiz Kids, etc. Ask...

Curriculum Center Changes

To all things, there is a season, and, as we edge ever closer to summer, we must look forward to what comes next: camp and (hopefully) increasingly eased restrictions across much of the U.S. and abroad.   For more than a year, we’ve relied on augmented curriculum; socially-distanced, unspotted content in Level 3, and new programs like STEAM Learn and Play to capture the families looking for drop-off options. STEAM, in particular, has been a hugely popular choice for many gyms, and still retains a loyal following. Similarly, we know that there are still many gyms still running Level 3 curricula across the board; waiting until local restrictions ease before transitioning to Level 4.  Beginning May 24th, all Level 3 content will no longer appear in the main “Weekly Curriculum” section of the Curriculum Center. Rather, it will be accessible under the “Programming” list at the top of the page, in its own, separate archive. Importantly, if you are in a city or state with tighter restrictions regarding social distancing,...

New CDC Mask Guidance

The CDC released new mask guidance on May 13, 2021 (read here).  It is your responsibility to stay up to date on these guidelines as well as your local mandates and regulations.  Visit your state or county health department or covid-19 websites for their current mandates. While relaxed mask rules are great news for the recovery of our economy and country, we know it may present My Gym owners with the potential for challenging conversations. Above all else, My Gyms must continue to follow their state and county mandates regarding masks and social distancing.  This is clear in the CDC Guidance: Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. MGE’s Mask Guidance thru May 31, 2021: We understand there are vast differences from one region to the next.  Therefore, the best course of action is to place the decision in My Gym owners’ hands. ...

MGM Status Update

Dear Franchisees, We want to provide you with an update on the state of MGM and all related My Gym technology. Behind the scenes, the system is going through one of the largest updates since MGM 3.0 was launched in 2016. Items being worked on include but are not limited to: Redesigned customer experience (transactional processes and client interface)Mobile app preparationOverall front- and back-end optimizationAdditional manpower to the tech team Though there won’t be many cosmetic changes to MGM and the overall website, the visitor experience from browsing to booking will be much more user-friendly. We are also tackling some overdue maintenance so that extended service interruptions and other major issues will be few and far between.   Because this work is being done now, some reported bugs may not be fixed immediately. There may be a little bit of extra monitoring or workarounds on the gyms’ part for the time being. We apologize for this, but know that your reports are all acknowledged and are being addressed in...

Mat Vendor

All kidding aside, no one likes to pay for shipping. This is especially true when those rates are in the hundreds of dollars. With our mats being large and heavy, these fees can really add up when shipping long distances. Artistic Coverings has been a preferred vendor of MGE for 21 years. We have and will continue to have a great relationship with them. It is very convenient for our local gyms that they are in CA, but not so great for those on the other side of the country. With fuel, oil, and demand dictating the shipping rates, the only thing MGE can do to soften the blow is to work with vendors in other regions. We are extremely excited to have expanded our relationship with our long-time vendor, Spieth America. Spieth has provided our high bar/parallel bars/uneven bars since the early 2000s. They also have a full mat line, which we have incorporated into what they can provide to My Gym. We are working to add another...

Valuing Diversity in Our My Gym Family

It is an honor for MGE to formally announce the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Board. The Board, comprised of 12 volunteers, was developed ten months ago to identify unconscious bias and foster an inclusive and diverse My Gym community with a goal of retaining as many representatives from as many different backgrounds as possible in the near future. It is an advisory board composed of MGE staff, My Gym owners, and My Gym directors of different ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations to reflect the diversity within My Gym. However, we consider our entire community part of this Board, with every voice valued and important. The motto the Board has embraced is “Know better, do better.” Since the Board and MGE have been working together, the board has produced and distributed a *video on implicit bias and has advised MGE on various topics such as Black and Women’s History Months, Asian American and Pacific Islander activism, Board initiatives, and diversity on MGE’s leadership team. Currently, the board...

Facebook Leads: Ready to SAVE TIME?

If you are advertising on Facebook, you have to go to Facebook several times a day, download your leads, save the lead contact in Zipwhip, and then text each lead in Zipwhip. Guess what! A program called Zapier (rhymes with happier) can automate all these steps for you. Several My Gym franchisees have been using it successfully for 2-4 weeks. Here are the details: Important Note: MGE has met with Zapier account managers. We do not have the volume (enough franchisees to use the service) to get preferred pricing. We are sharing this option with you because it has proven to be invaluable to those using it. There is no preferred pricing or dedicated rep, and all support is handled by Zapier within their normal support channels. What is Zapier? Zapier connects apps and software to each other and automates processes between them. Watch this for a basic overview. If you are interested, Zapier has a lot of other videos on their channel here. What’s so cool about this...

Autism Awareness Month

My Gym is a place of inclusion, diversity and equity and we hope to honor this in everything we do. MGE is aware that both ‘Light It Up Blue’ and the puzzle piece symbol have an association with the organization Autism Speaks. We have adjusted the graphic to reflect a more inclusive point of view, without association to any specific organization. The text can remain the same, but we recommend you remove the final line: “Let’s #LightItUpBlue!” This is an evolving, sensitive area of understanding – and we are all working together to be better and do better. April is upon us, and we are thrilled to kick off the month by celebrating World Autism Awareness Day on Friday, April 2nd. We encourage My Gyms everywhere to join us as we “light it up blue” by wearing a blue shirt in recognition and appreciation of children with autism, as well as those who love and support them. MGE has a graphic available for use on all social media platforms (below),...
