Update on New Core programs and Change of Age Ranges

My Gym Age Groups Changing We have spent a lot of time over the past year researching and discussing our age ranges.  Our My Gym classes will now go up to 10 years of age.  The only real change you will need to make is with the ages for the Cardio Kids class.  We feel this class will be much more appealing to children ranging from 7 – 10 years of age.  We will be changing over the website and the marketing materials to reflect the new ages.  The entire curriculum is designed to be age appropriate.  It is, therefore, important that you put your children into the correct age groups so they can succeed in building the skills for each age level as well as develop self-esteem.  The age groups are listed below and are a mandate.  If you currently have children older than 10 years of age in your Cardio Kids classes, this is absolutely fine, and no changes need to be made with them. Little Bundles...

To close or not to close…

The topic of closing the ball pit has come up in recent years. Below are some tips to help you navigate the decision to keep the ball pit open or closed during the winter months. 1. Cons to closing the ball pit: Appearance – It may give the impression that we are unable to clean properly and thus have to close.  Setup could become lackluster. Make sure that, if you close, you keep things interesting and creative. For example: Ball pit balls can be removed completely, and the ball pit can be set up on its side in a fun and new way.  2. Pros to closing the ball pit: Since the ball pit cannot be cleaned every day, closing eliminates the potential, or perceived, risks.  Addressing/reacting to the public concern regarding the cleanliness of ball pits in general Not having to clean the ball pit once a week MGE’s Position: The choice is yours, as there are pros and cons to both. If you choose to keep your...

Beginning October 17, Exact Target will convert to their new website called the Marketing Cloud.  You will log into the same place and use the same username and password, but the welcome screen will now look like this: Click “Do not show this message again” (if you wish) and then “Get Started” to get to the main screen, which will look like this: Mouse over the “Email” button on the top-left corner; then click “Email” again to navigate to the main portion of Exact Target. Ella’s Update

We want to thank each and every gym for super execution with our Ella’s partnership this far.  We know you are all anxiously awaiting the next round of samples.  Long distance high-fives all around!  With that said, there are a few follow-up items on which we can focus before the next samples arrive. Fall Newsletter Part of the terms of our partnership is that our gyms would send out the Fall Newsletter to your Exact Target database.  This template can be found in your Exact Target accounts.  If you have any questions about the distribution of this email, please let us know by reaching out to support@mygym.com. 2. Coupons If you have any coupons left from the first round of samples, please continue to hand these out. Sales and Use Tax Update

Unfortunately and understandably, many gym owners are still confused about Sales and Use Tax, and with good reason.  There are two major problems we have from a franchisor’s perspective and in light of trying to help our franchisees: The laws differ from state to state. The laws are not always black and white and are very open for interpretation and argument. Put that together with the fact that tax laws change from time to time, and you have a difficult area to manage.  It is very important that you know and understand the sales and use tax laws in your state when making business decisions.  A few things to think about: In some states, there might be a strong argument that birthday parties should be taxed. In some states where there is not a strong argument that birthday parties should be taxed, the whole party can become taxable if certain taxable elements are added to the party package. In some states, it could be quite simple to ensure that...

My Gym Tomorrow

Our team has been hard at work with designers, franchisees, and vendors to create the new “look and feel” for the way My Gyms will look “tomorrow.”  We have many pieces of the design in place and would like to share them now, as there are many gyms preparing to update their facilities. Moving forward, all new gyms will open with the specifications outlined herein.  All operational gyms will use and follow the same specifications as they upgrade and make improvements.  It is very important to note that these specifications are not optional and must be adhered to.  If any changes to the specifications need to be made, they must be approved by MGE.  There will be no exceptions. Wall Colors Moving forward, we will use three wall colors.  As every gym is different, the number of walls and layouts will vary, but the color schedule will remain the same.  The wall colors are blue, green, and white.   Trim Colors We will be using a dark gray for...

Insurance Update

My name is Gary Caesar, and I have been the preferred insurance broker for MGE and My Gym franchisees for almost 20 years.  Our HUB International team works very closely with Jamie Bertisch, especially during renewal time, to make sure that we offer the most competitive premiums without sacrificing valuable coverage. We thought it important to take this time to update you with some of the changes negotiated in this year’s program.  Please keep in mind that the program operates on a fiscal year, which begins on October 1, 2014.  Your location policy has its own individual renewal date and policy period. Non-Premium Enhancements include but are not limited to: 24-hour access to policy info and claims reporting capabilities via HUB and American Specialty’s online portal Top Tier Insurers are “A” rated by A.M. Best. Volume discounts continue, as you still are contributing to a group policy. Enhanced limits of liability automatically included: 5,000,000 aggregate coverage vs. 3M last year Profit and Business Income insurance has been increased to...

PCI Compliancy

PCI Compliancy is a set of requirements designed to ensure that all businesses that process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.  The methods and companies used to maintain compliancy have changed over the years, including a recent change, depending on your merchant provider. If you process with Chase Paymentech (Versatalis) and are contacted by Security Metrics about being non-compliant, you can inform them that you are compliant and use First Data. If you have switched providers to Global Payments, Security Metrics will contact you within the first few months of processing.  You will need to provide them with the requested information and perform the required procedures. As per PCI Security Standards, the storage of cardholder data in the form of hard copy is permitted as long as it is physically secured and properly destroyed when it is no longer needed for business or legal reasons. The only cardholder data that may be stored after authorization is the primary account number, expiration date, and cardholder name....

Directives for Enterovirus-D68

Another year, another virus!  As you have probably already heard, there is a new virus going around.  It is called Enterovirus D68 (or EV-D68).  It is a variation of the common cold and is known to cause mild to severe respiratory illness and fever.  Many children who have become ill have difficulty breathing, and those with a history of Asthma or chronic respiratory difficulties suffer with wheezing.  For more information on EV-D68, please click here. If you are approached by concerned parents, put them at ease and please let them know that “we clean and disinfect daily and as needed throughout the day.”  You can also remind parents to: Wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds – particularly after changing diapers. Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces, such as toys and doorknobs. Avoid shaking hands, kissing, hugging, and sharing cups or eating utensils with individuals who are ill.  Very important: stay home if you do not feel well. This is not a “new” virus and is actually...
